When Do You Need A Building or Zoning Permit?

Building Permits are required for many projects before beginning work. If you are working with a contractor, please coordinate with them to determine who will submit the permit application for your project. The Township Building Inspector is required to review and approve building plans. Projects requiring building permits include, but are not limited to, new construction, additions, major electrical and plumbing work, renovations invloving structural changes, solar panel installation, new or additional decks and porches, above and in-ground swimming pools, and hot tubs. Penalty provisions exist and apply to all construction what proceeds without the proper permits and inspections.

The Township utilizes the 2009 International Building Code. Building permits are issued after a plan review has been completed.

Zoning Permits are required under the Zoning Ordinance to regulate accessory structures and storage sheds. All structures are subject to review and permit regardless of their size and location. These regulations include sheds placed on temporary foundations. The most common question regarding sheds is the required set back from property lines. Shed must be placed a minimum of 15' from all property lines and are not permitted in front yards.

PLEASE NOTE
Stormwater Management requirements must be met BEFORE a Building or Zoning Permit
can be issued for projects involving the addition of more than 1000 square feet of
impervious coverage or 5000 square feet of earth disturbance.
