WHEN DO YOU NEED A PERMIT?
Building Permits are required for many projects before beginning work. If you are working with a contractor, please coordinate with them to determine who will submit the permit application for your project. The Township Building Inspector is required to review and approve building plans. Projects requiring building permits include, but are not limited to, new construction, additions, any electrical and plumbing work, renovations invloving structural changes, solar panel installation, new or additional decks and porches, above and in-ground swimming pools, hot tubs, accessory structures greater than 200 sq. ft., etc. Penalty provisions exist and apply to all construction that proceeds without the proper permits and inspections. *A Zoning Permit must be submitted with all building permits*
The Township utilizes the 2018 International Building Code. Building permits are issued after a plan review has been completed.
Zoning Permits are required under the Zoning Ordinance to regulate all accessory structures including but not limited to fences, storage sheds, etc. All structures are subject to review and permit regardless of their size and location. The most common question regarding sheds is the required set back from property lines. Sheds must be placed a minimum of 15' from the rear and side yard property lines and are not permitted in the front yard. |
Driveway Permits are required for access to all new construction and for alteration or resurfacing of existing driveways. If you reside or are planning to build on Pennsylvania state road, you will need to obtain a driveway permit from PennDot.
|
Sign Permits are required when placing a sign outside a business, church, school, office, etc. There are Zoning restrictions with regard to the size and placement of signs. Please refer to the Zoning Ordinance for more information.
